NITDA DG Highlights AI Transformation at Huawei Day Nigeria 2025

At Huawei Day Nigeria 2025, held at the Oriental Hotel, Lagos, with the theme, Accelerate Industrial Intelligence, the Director General of the National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA), Kashifu Inuwa Abdullahi, shared compelling insights into NITDA’s transformative journey in artificial intelligence (AI).

Huawei Nigeria Innovation Centre

The event marked the official unveiling of the Huawei Nigeria Innovation Centre, a landmark development aimed at deepening technological advancement in the country.

In his keynote address, the Director General emphasised the dawn of a new era, one defined not only by the capabilities of machines and algorithms but by the emergence of what he described as “cool intelligence”, a synergistic collaboration between humans and intelligent systems.

He further explained that over 50% of current work activities can now be performed more efficiently with the help of AI and the Internet, underscoring the urgent need for skill evolution and process redesign. Addressing the youth, particularly Gen Zs, he stressed the importance of embracing core AI principles saying, “To unlock the potential of this generation and the future of work, we must always invite AI to the table. AI today holds vast knowledge and can empower us if we engage it wisely.”

The event was graced by notable dignitaries, including the Deputy Governor of Lagos State, Dr. Femi Hamzat, President of Huawei’s Data Storage Product Line, Dr. Peter Zhou and other industry leaders. Together with the NITDA DG, they unveiled the Huawei Innovation Centre and embarked on a guided tour of the facility to explore cutting-edge technological innovations.

During the tour, Kashifu Inuwa actively engaged with the AI technologies on display, experiencing firsthand how intelligent systems are reshaping industries and setting the stage for Nigeria’s leadership in the digital economy.
