NCC Unveils E-Health Project in Akure, Vows Nationwide Digital Healthcare Revolution

The Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) yesterday officially commissioned a transformative e-Health Project at the State Specialist Hospital in Akure, Ondo State, marking a significant milestone in the country’s drive to leverage technology for improved healthcare delivery.

The initiative, commissioned on Thursday, May 29, 2025, aims to streamline medical processes, enhance patient care, and foster a healthier populace capable of contributing more robustly to Nigeria’s digital economy.

Speaking at the ceremony, the Executive Vice Chairman of the NCC, Dr. Aminu Maida, articulated the project as a powerful testament to collective efforts in revolutionising Nigeria’s health sector through ICT.

Dr. Maida underscored the dual benefits of the e-Health initiative, explaining that it would first, seamlessly integrate the health sector into the digital economy, allowing it to reap the widespread advantages already enjoyed by other economic sectors.

Additionally, he stressed that a healthier citizenry, empowered by accessible e-health platforms, would inherently contribute more effectively to the burgeoning digital economy. “We thus enhance the quality of medical services and ensure that services are accessible to all, regardless of geographical location, by integrating advanced ICT solutions into healthcare,” Dr. Maida affirmed.

The newly commissioned project is expected to significantly accelerate the adoption of ICT within the health sector. According to the NCC boss, the implementation of these e-health solutions will not only streamline medical processes and enhance patient care but also facilitate the efficient management of critical health records.
